Patients at St. Louis Children's Hospital were immersed in learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics with activities all week thanks to a host of wonderful organizations. Monday morning kicked off with Engineering and Construction Day, and the week progressed with Technology and Mathematics Day, Animal and Science Day, Ecology Day and Chemical Science Day. Over 100 patients were treated to a variety of hands-on activities including:
- MilliporeSigma, the U.S. and Canada Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, sparked curiosity in our patients with various science experiments.
- Slalom helped patients build their very own Lego maze with coding commands and helped our teens code their own online game.
- McCarthy Building Companies showed patients how to build with marshmallows.
- The Magic House helped patients build catapults.
- St. Louis Zoo hosted a special edition of ZOO Bingo.
- World Bird Sanctuary gave patients the opportunity to interact with a majestic horned owl.
- Forest Park Living Lab expanded our learning about animal research and owls that live in Forest Park.
In addition, we hosted a daily LIVE@Children’s broadcast to more than 300 inpatient rooms, with fun and entertaining education segments and live streams from a construction site and the St. Louis Zoo! Prizes were delivered to all patients calling in with fantastic questions about STEM careers and what they learned on the show.
